“I have very dry skin in the winter and feel the urge to to scratch, which leads to irritation” explains Claudia. Do you also have skin discomfort when it’s cold? Below you can find some tips that can help you.
Avoid very dry air in your home
Be careful with the difference in cold temperatures outside and warm temperatures inside. Especially the dry air can cause problems for your skin. The air at home is often too dry and this affects your skin. It’s a good idea to get a humidifier in your living room.
Wear organic cotton
I love to wear wool because it is stylish en warm. But that really irritates my skin especially synthetic materials and I have a crazy itching problem when wearing them. I recommend biological cotton and especially bamboo which is very soft to your skin.
Where can you find clothes that are ‘skin-friendly’?
Recently Esprit launched the new collections ‘Wellness Collection’, but I didn’t find anything I like. What surprised me is that not all clothing items are made of natural material. So I went to look elsewhere and found certain yoga collections like Wellicious and OMGirl sells this collection online.
Wear under layers
In Holland you don’t have so much choice in affordable yet comfortable clothing. So I sometimes wear a clothing that is not made of biogical cotton. I can get away with this as long as I wear my first layer and protect it with biological cotton like a tank top of, for example, H&M, C&A or Hema or even thermo pants .
Use a moisturizing oil or bodylotion
A good tip is to rub on warm biological coconut oil on your skin just after taking a shower. You even have scentless coconut oil nowadays for those who don’t like the smell of it. Yoy can also use Vaseline Intensive Rescue Body Butter or Bodylotion. Or another anti itch cream that works well contains honey. These products were created to treat various skin conditions including eczema.
Do you also have tips?
I’m still searching good ways to prevent terrible itching and I’m not finished yet. I’m sure there’s much out there and if you have tips, please let us know!
