Young Fashion Designer Elise Kim showed her Autumn-Winter ’13/’14 collection Epiphenomenon on the 26th of January 2013 at Amsterdam Fashion Week. Her designs are sober, simple and elegant combined with edgy and surprising elements. Remarkable were the different kinds of materials she uses such as firm gazelle skin, sheepskin, leather, wool, wool crepe combined with soft chiffon satin, silk jersey, satin organza, and silk cotton blends. She creates unique materials and has a strong passion for materials and different kinds of techniques such as laser, (bright coloured) embroidery, and beading. She has a great eye for detail and craftmanship. The color palette is quiet with lots of black but also striking and stimulating with a few pieces in cobalt blue, reddish orange, orange and fuchsia.
Her collection Autumn-Winter ‘13/’14, the third part of the trilogy is inspired by a dark dream when one is in deep sleep, but suddenly awakes from seeing bizarre images. Half awake, one dozes off back to sleep and gets lost in another world. A world where one finds one’s way and rewrites the nightmare into a beautiful dream. “Night is strange, night is surreal. Night is when you dream, and not because you are asleep.
