Moodboard by fashion designer Marga Weimans at vernissage in Groninger Museum.
When things are repetitious and routine my energy goes down. For me it’s very important to keep on searching for new insights. I draw inspiration by, for example, a spontaneous talk with a stranger, reading a powerful text in a shop window or seeing an ethnic sweater on the street taking me to a mysterious world. By talking, listening, looking and observing: I don’t only get a new perspective, but I also discover new things and quickly make new connections between ideas.
I believe that you need to challenge yourself, try something new and get yourself out of your comfort zone. Looking for inspiration helps you to get the most out of yourself and be more creative. It gives you a feeling of knowing how to handle a situation and finish the job. Who doesn’t want that?
Personally I perform best when I work from the heart. I get energized and stimulated with all kinds of things. Sometimes I literally smell the energy especially herbs such as rosemary, mint and ginger make me alert and sharp. Every week I plan an inspiration day where I go ‘people and city viewing’ and take pictures of places, texts and people that inspire me in Holland and abroad. I then use the pictures for trainings and workshops and for input for my personalized advice. By looking back at my pictures I make connections and, form and strenghten my own beliefs about trends and current developments. This makes me happy! What about you what do you get excited about and what makes you cheerful?
You can get inspiration and new perspectives at any time of the day. Keep your eyes and ears open and be curious. Don’t stay in your own little circle. The less routine the more life! This also applies to your clothing and appearance. Are you in the mood for something new? Look around you, experiment, play, walk into a shop, try it on before you immediately buy it. Get inspired!
