Summer’s over and the cold and wet days are there. So time for action! I have three tips to help you get your wardrobe Autumn ready.
It’s easiest to take all the time you need to get started. And also get a long mirror to see yourself from head to toe.
Tip 1: Clean out your wardrobe
Just put away high summer clothes and accessories such as light (weight) skirts, short sleeved dresses, sandals and, bangle bracelets. But make sure they’re clean and neat. Is the hem loose? Do the heels need to be replaced? Bring them to the tailor or cleaner before they’re away. This way you can wear them as soon as the sun comes out again.
And now you’ve got spare room for your items for fall! You can just start with light sweaters and cardigans, opaque tights, suede or leather booties, dark handbag and, cashmere scarves.
Tip 2: Decluttering
Go through your closet and see what works and what doesn’t. Is there anything you didn’t actually wear last autumn/winter? Be critical. Decluttering feels good. Does the item communicate who you are? Maybe you had a shirt that kept creasing or you bought something that was on-trend but ended up not suiting you. Whatever the reason, put these items aside – just give them away to someone who will truly appreciate them.
Tip 3: What do you need to fill in the gaps?
Now that you’ve (probably) gotten rid of some clothes, take a look at each item left in your closet. The goal is to have a wardrobe full of pieces you wear. You want to be working with clothes that work for you.
Based on what you’ve got, piece together some new combinations, such as a skirt with a sweater or a dress with tights. Or could you put a jacket over a tank top? Can you wear it with boots? Think about the pieces you need to fill in the gaps and get the most out of your wardrobe.
And before you shop and buy, get inspired! Look around and, give yourself some time to see what’s going on on the street, in a magazine, the catwalk shows for upcoming season, in the shops and don’t buy immediately – unless you fall in love with it. Think about what image you want to project and what you like. Give yourself some time to get ideas. And with these new ideas you shop more strategically and, can invest in clothes that work for you. This will save you money by buying clothing you will wear and enjoy it everytime you wear it.
